Porsche 911 Turbo (997)
2006–2013 (997.2 Turbo S 2010–2013) · Porsche 911 Turbo (997) — Sports Car, Flat-6 Twin-Turbo, designed by Pinky Lai.
The Story
The 997 Turbo is the everyday supercar perfected — the all-wheel-drive, twin-turbo 911 that delivers genuine supercar pace with the usability of a daily driver. The 997.1 (2006) used the legendary Mezger twin-turbo flat-six (480 PS) and was the first petrol production car with variable-turbine-geometry (VTG) turbochargers, all but eliminating the old turbo lag. The 997.2 (2009) switched to a new direct-injection 3.8 (500 PS) and added the PDK gearbox. With its AWD traction, ferocious in-gear punch and Porsche build quality, the 997 Turbo can out-accelerate a GT3 in the real world, then commute home in comfort. The 997.1 is the last Mezger-engined Turbo — and a sought-after one.

The Designer
Pinky Lai
Born in Hong Kong and trained in Rome and London, Lai is best known for the controversial-but-crucial 996 — the first 911 designed from scratch since 1964 — whose platform-sharing with the Boxster helped save the company.
Studio Motors POV
The everyday supercar at its best — Mezger-engined (in 997.1 form), AWD, and as fast as a GT3 in the real world. A documented 997.1 manual is the connoisseur’s pick; the 997.2 and Turbo S are superb all-rounders.

Questions
911 Turbo (997) FAQ
What engine does the Porsche 997 Turbo S use?
The 997 Turbo S (2010-2013) uses a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged 9A1 flat-six producing 523 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, driving all four wheels through a 7-speed PDK. It reaches 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and tops out at 196 mph, making it one of the fastest production cars of its era.
What changed between the 997.1 Turbo and 997.2 Turbo?
The 997.1 Turbo (2006-2009) retained the Mezger engine architecture inherited from the 996 Turbo. The 997.2 Turbo (2009-2013) introduced an entirely new 3.8-litre block, dropped the Mezger lineage, added direct injection, and paired with the 7-speed PDK gearbox. Both are mechanically sound, but 997.1 Turbo collectors prize the Mezger continuity; the 997.2 Turbo S offers the highest power output of the generation.
What is a Porsche 997 Turbo S worth today?
The 997 Turbo S trades broadly in the $90,000-$150,000+ range in 2025-2026 markets. Low-mileage coupe examples can exceed $130,000; exceptional low-mile or spec-heavy cars trade above that. Values have strengthened as the 997 generation has matured into modern-classic status.
Is the 997 Turbo available with a manual gearbox?
The 997.1 Turbo (2006-2009) was offered with a 6-speed manual as well as the 5-speed Tiptronic S. The 997.2 base Turbo (2009-2013) was also available with a 6-speed manual or PDK; only the 997.2 Turbo S was PDK-only. Manual 997.1 and 997.2 Turbo coupes both command collector interest today.
