Porsche 911 GT3 (991)
2013–2019 (991.2 GT3 4.0 = 2017–2019) · Porsche 911 GT3 (991) — Sports Car, Flat-6, designed by Michael Mauer.
The Story
The 991 GT3 is the generation that journeyed from controversy to redemption. The 991.1 (2013) was a technical leap — a 9,000-rpm flat-six, rear-wheel steering for the first time on a GT3, and a blisteringly quick PDK gearbox — but it was PDK-ONLY, which outraged purists and (after a few early engine fires prompted a recall) gave it a rocky start. Porsche answered emphatically with the 991.2 (2017): a bigger 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six (500 PS, still 9,000 rpm) and, crucially, the return of a six-speed MANUAL as a no-cost option. The result — and especially the wingless 991.2 GT3 Touring — is, for many, the GT3 to have: more usable than the older cars, more supple than the 992 that followed, and a 9,000-rpm thrill for (used) BMW M2 money.

Studio Motors POV
The GT3 that went from PDK-only controversy to manual-shift redemption — the 991.2 is, for many, the sweet spot of the whole line. A manual 991.2 GT3 Touring is the connoisseur’s pick; buy a documented car and enjoy the 9,000-rpm howl.

What Reviewers Said About 911 GT3 (991)
Worth Knowing About the 911 GT3 (991)
3 Things You Didn’t Know
- 1) The 991.1 GT3 was the first GT3 with rear-wheel steering — and the first that was PDK-only, which is exactly why the manual's return on the 991.2 was such a big deal. 2) Early 991.1 cars were recalled after a handful of engine fires — Porsche replaced engines and the issue was resolved, but it dented the launch. 3) The 991.2 also introduced the wingless GT3 Touring (2018) — the connoisseur's sleeper, and the start of the Touring trend.

Studio Buyer’s Brief
The 991.2 (2017-on, 4.0, manual) is the one to want — and the wingless GT3 Touring is the most coveted; verify the early 991.1’s engine-recall work was completed. Manual over PDK for collectibility and engagement. Check service history and any track use. A manual 991.2 GT3 (or Touring) is a buy-and-hold modern classic.

Questions
911 GT3 (991) FAQ
What engine does the Porsche 911 GT3 991.2 use?
The 991.2 GT3 uses a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six producing 493 hp (500 PS) and revving to 9,000 rpm. It is available with a 7-speed PDK or a 6-speed manual and drives the rear wheels only.
Why did the 991.1 GT3 drop the manual gearbox?
Porsche chose a PDK-only configuration for the 991.1 GT3 at launch in 2013 because the dual-clutch transmission was faster around a circuit. Following strong customer demand, Porsche restored the manual option for the 991.2 GT3 (2017) alongside the new 4.0-litre engine, also adding the wing-delete Touring Package.
What is a Porsche 911 GT3 991 worth today?
The 991-generation GT3 trades broadly across variants — 991.1 examples in the $150,000s, and 991.2 manual GT3s and Touring Package cars at the top of the market (Classic.com manual CMB about $200,343; Touring CMB about $236,009).
How does the 991 GT3 differ from the 991 GT3 RS?
The GT3 RS uses a wider bodyshell borrowed from the Turbo, larger fixed rear wing, magnesium roof and engine lid, and more aggressive aero. Both cars use the same-family 4.0-litre flat-six, but the 991.2 GT3 RS is tuned to 520 hp — about 20 hp more than the 991.2 GT3.
Is the Porsche 911 GT3 991 a good investment?
The 991.2 GT3 manual has shown consistent appreciation since new, with low-mileage Touring examples routinely exceeding original MSRP at auction and on the private market. As the last GT3 to offer a traditional manual before the 992 generation, collector demand remains strong.
