The Story
When Rolls-Royce revealed the Wraith in 2013 it broke its own mould: a rakish two-door fastback, the most powerful and most overtly driver-focused car Goodwood had ever built. Under the bonnet sat a 624 bhp twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12 driving the rear wheels – ten per cent more power than the Phantom or Cullinan – wrapped in a coupe body that revived a nameplate last used on a pre-war Rolls (the 1938 Wraith).
The Wraith mattered because it proved a Rolls could be a genuine grand tourer without surrendering an ounce of its waftability. It introduced Satellite Aided Transmission – a GPS-linked eight-speed that reads the road ahead and pre-selects the right gear for the corner – and a Starlight Headliner of hundreds of fibre-optic ‘stars’. A Black Badge version (2016) darkened the chrome and sharpened the responses for a younger buyer.
