The Story
The 993 Carrera RS is the air-cooled RS swansong — the last naturally-aspirated, air-cooled, lightweight RS 911, and a fitting farewell to a hallowed lineage. Built in 1995-96, it took the 993 Carrera, enlarged the flat-six to 3.8 litres (the brilliant M64/20, 300 PS), seam-welded and lightened the bodyshell (aluminium doors and bonnet, thinner glass) to around 2,800 lb — some 220 lb lighter than a Carrera 2 — and added a fixed bi-plane wing, stiffer suspension and a limited-slip diff. The result is the purest, most focused air-cooled 911 of the water-cooled era’s eve — and, as the final air-cooled NA RS, a genuine blue-chip grail. The even-harder Clubsport (with a cage and bigger wing) is the apex.
