The Story

The Veyron is the car that broke the rules of physics and economics at once. When Ferdinand Piëch — the VW Group chairman who had bought Bugatti — demanded a road car with 1,001 PS and a 400 km/h top speed that could still waft to the opera, his engineers spent years discovering just how hard that is. The answer, launched in 2005, was the 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16: all-wheel drive, ten radiators, a 7-speed dual-clutch, and 253 mph.

It worked — and it reportedly cost Volkswagen money on every single car. The later Super Sport raised the bar to 1,200 PS and a 267.86 mph (431 km/h) world record. Named after Pierre Veyron, who won Le Mans for Bugatti in 1939, it single-handedly invented the modern hypercar.

For Studio Motors, the Veyron is the foundation stone of everything Bugatti is today — the first modern blue-chip and the bridge from the EB110 to the Chiron.

Owners & what to look for

Famous Owners

A long, documented list: Tom Cruise (arrived in his at the 2006 Mission: Impossible III premiere), Simon Cowell (sold his low-mileage car in 2014), Ralph Lauren, and Jay Leno (Super Sport), among many others.

Studio Buyer’s Brief

The roadster Grand Sport and the Super Sport / Vitesse carry the strongest values and stories; the Super Sport’s record cachet is unique. These are appreciating — early, low-mileage, fully-documented cars with complete Bugatti service history are the ones to hold. Beware neglected examples: deferred W16 servicing (tyres, fluids, seals) is brutally expensive.
