Porsche 911 Turbo (964)
1990–1994 (Turbo 3.6 1993–94) · Porsche 911 Turbo (964) — Sports Car, Flat-6 Turbo, designed by Benjamin Dimson.
The Story
The 964 Turbo is the last single-turbo, rear-wheel-drive 911 Turbo — the final evolution of the wild, lag-it-and-pray formula the 930 invented, before the 993 went twin-turbo and all-wheel drive. It came first in 1990 with a developed version of the old 3.3 (320 PS), then — in its most coveted form — with a 3.6-litre flat-six making 360 PS in 1993. RWD, savagely quick, and far rarer than its successor (just ~1,437 of the 3.6 were built), the 964 Turbo 3.6 is regarded by collectors as ‘the last of the last’ — the ultimate single-turbo air-cooled Porsche. There are also the ultra-rare Turbo S Leichtbau and 3.6 S Flachbau specials at the very top of the tree.

Studio Buyer’s Brief
The 3.6 (1993–94) is the grail over the earlier 3.3; the Turbo S Leichtbau and 3.6 Flachbau are the apex (verify authenticity — many slant-noses are conversions). RWD and single-turbo means it’s a handful — a sorted, documented car matters. Matching numbers and originality drive value; a buy-the-history collectible.

Questions
911 Turbo (964) FAQ
What engine does the Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 use?
The 964 Turbo evolved across two engine generations. The 964 Turbo 3.3 (1990-1992) used the M30/69 3.3-litre engine at about 315-320 hp. The 964 Turbo 3.6 (1993-1994) uses the M64/50 3.6-litre engine producing 355-360 hp and 384 lb-ft, paired with a 5-speed manual. The 3.6 was the most powerful production 911 of its era.
What is the 964 Turbo S Leichtbau?
The 964 Turbo S Leichtbau (1992-1993) was a lightweight factory special built in approximately 86 examples. It used lightweight and composite components — aluminum doors, thinner glass, stripped interior trim, and other weight-saving measures — rather than a full Kevlar bodywork conversion. Power was 381 hp.
What is a Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 worth today?
The 964 Turbo 3.6 averages approximately $397,000 in 2025-2026 markets, with the range from around $350,000 to $600,000 for well-documented examples. The ultra-rare Turbo S Leichtbau has exceeded $1,000,000. Values have risen sharply as the 964 Turbo consolidated its position as the last single-turbocharged air-cooled 911 Turbo. Hagerty tracks all 964 Turbo variants.
How does the 964 Turbo compare to the 993 Turbo that followed?
The 964 Turbo (355 hp, single turbo, RWD) retains the classic single-turbo character of the 930 Turbo lineage with the 964’s more modern suspension and ABS. The 993 Turbo introduced twin low-inertia turbochargers and improved boost control, substantially reducing lag versus the 964 Turbo without eliminating it entirely.
