Porsche 911 Turbo (993)
1995–1998 (Turbo S 1997–98) · Porsche 911 Turbo (993) — Sports Car, Flat-6 Twin-Turbo, designed by Tony Hatter.
The Story
If the 930 was the wild original, the 993 Turbo is the one that grew up — and many call it the peak 911. Launched in 1995, it was the FIRST twin-turbo 911 and the first with all-wheel drive as standard, taming the old ‘Widowmaker’ reputation while raising the bar: 408 hp (450 in the rare Turbo S) from a 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six, hydraulically-assisted grip, and the gorgeous, hunkered-down 993 body. It is the last air-cooled 911 Turbo — the end of an era — and combines analog air-cooled character with genuinely modern, all-weather usability. That blend, plus its swansong status, has made it a blue-chip grail.

The Designer
Tony Hatter
Hatter moved from Opel to Porsche in 1986 and, under Lagaaij, penned the 993 — widely regarded as one of the most beautiful 911s. He remained a long-serving Porsche exterior designer across the GT1, Cayman and special-edition projects.
Studio Motors POV
The grown-up ‘Widowmaker’ and, to many, the peak 911 — the last air-cooled Turbo combines analog soul with all-weather usability. A standard Turbo is a blue-chip you can actually drive; a Turbo S is a grail.

Questions
911 Turbo (993) FAQ
What engine does the Porsche 993 Turbo use?
The 993 Turbo uses an M64/60 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged air-cooled flat-six producing 408 hp and about 398 lb-ft of torque in standard form. The 993 Turbo S and other hotter variants reach 444 hp and up to 432 lb-ft / 585 Nm (with overboost). Twin turbos substantially reduced lag versus the single-turbo 964 Turbo.
Why is the 993 Turbo historically significant?
The 993 Turbo (1995-1998) was the first 911 Turbo equipped with twin turbos and standard all-wheel drive, transforming the car’s character from the intimidating single-turbo rear-wheel-drive 930 and 964 into a car that was both devastatingly fast and approachable. It was also the last air-cooled 911 Turbo ever produced, a combination of engineering achievement and historical finality that gives it blue-chip status.
What is a Porsche 993 Turbo S worth today?
The 993 Turbo S (approximately 345 built) trades in the $500,000-$1,000,000-plus range in 2025-2026 markets. The standard 993 Turbo trades from approximately $200,000 to $500,000 depending on condition and specification. Both have appreciated sharply as the last air-cooled 911 Turbo variants attract collector premiums. Hagerty tracks both with separate condition-based valuations.
How does the 993 Turbo S differ from the standard 993 Turbo?
The 993 Turbo S (1997-1998, approximately 345 built) raises power from 408 hp to 444 hp through larger turbochargers, intercoolers, and a revised engine map. The standard 993 Turbo already had the wide flared bodywork and fixed rear wing; the Turbo S adds the Powerkit uprating, unique aero and trim details, and commands a significant market premium.
Can Studio Motors source a Porsche 993 Turbo or Turbo S?
Yes. Given that Turbo S examples average above $500,000, each acquisition is treated as a bespoke collector transaction with complete provenance verification.
