The Story
The Aventador set the modern Lamborghini blueprint: a full carbon-fiber monocoque (a Lamborghini first), a naturally aspirated 6.5L V12, scissor doors, and styling Filippo Perini lifted from an F-117 stealth fighter — Y-shaped lights, hexagons, angles you could cut bread with. It launched at Geneva in 2011 and ran, almost unchanged in spirit, for over a decade and ~11,465 cars.
Its real significance is what it ended. The Aventador was the last pure, un-electrified Lamborghini V12 — the final chapter of a 700-hp, 8,000-rpm idea that began with the Miura. Lamborghini sent it off with the 2021 Ultimae, which president Stephan Winkelmann called ‘the final, purest, timeless naturally-aspirated production V12 Lamborghini.’ After it came the hybrid Revuelto, and the door on the old religion quietly closed.
It is loud, dramatic, occasionally cartoonish, and intoxicating in a way nothing with a turbo can replicate. The base car is a modern exotic; the SVJ, Ultimae and the platform few-offs (Veneno, Centenario, Sián) are the keepers.
