Porsche 911 GT2 RS (997)
2010–2011 · Porsche 911 GT2 RS (997) — Sports Car, Flat-6 Twin-Turbo, designed by Pinky Lai.
The Story
The 997 GT2 RS is the apex ‘Widowmaker’ — the fastest, most extreme, most ferocious 911 of its entire generation. Launched in 2010 in a run of about 500, it took the already-fearsome GT2 and went further still: 620 PS from the Mezger twin-turbo flat-six, extensive carbon-fibre and weight-saving, and the same uncompromising rear-drive, manual, no-safety-net philosophy. It lapped the Nürburgring in 7:18 — supercar-humbling pace — and Chris Harris’s legendary evo review captured its character perfectly: a car that rewards skill and punishes the careless. The fastest 911 ever to leave the factory at the time, and a blue-chip Mezger grail today.

The Designer
Pinky Lai
Born in Hong Kong and trained in Rome and London, Lai is best known for the controversial-but-crucial 996 — the first 911 designed from scratch since 1964 — whose platform-sharing with the Boxster helped save the company.

Questions
911 GT2 RS (997) FAQ
What engine does the Porsche 997 GT2 RS use?
The 997 GT2 RS uses the Mezger M97/70 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six producing 612 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual. It reaches 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and tops out at 205 mph, making it the most powerful and fastest road-going 911 of the water-cooled era at its launch.
How many Porsche 997 GT2 RS were built?
Porsche built exactly 500 examples of the 997 GT2 RS between 2010 and 2011. It was positioned as the ultimate expression of the 997-generation 911, combining the Mezger twin-turbo engine at its highest road-car output with rear-wheel drive and a stripped, lightweight body. Its original MSRP of $245,000 already reflected its ultra-limited status.
What is a Porsche 997 GT2 RS worth today?
The 997 GT2 RS averages around the low-$500,000s per current Classic.com data, with the range spanning roughly $500,000 to $780,000+ for clean examples. A record sale of $1,031,000 has been recorded. Values reflect its status as one of the ultimate turbocharged / manual Mezger-era GT 911s.
How does the 997 GT2 RS compare to the 997 GT3 RS 4.0?
Both are 500-600-unit Mezger-powered 997 specials, but the GT2 RS adds twin turbocharging for 612 hp versus the GT3 RS 4.0’s 493 hp naturally aspirated. The GT2 RS is based on the 911 Turbo / GT2 wide-body formula with RS-specific lightweight and aero pieces — not the standard 911 body of the GT3 RS 4.0.
Can I source a Porsche 997 GT2 RS through Studio Motors?
