The Story

The 991 Speedster is the perfect send-off — the very last 991-generation 911, and a love letter to the open-top 911. Built in 2019 in a run of 1,948 (a nod to Porsche’s 1948 founding), it is essentially a GT3 in a roadster’s clothes: the full 4.0-litre, 9,000-rpm GT3 flat-six (502 PS), a six-speed MANUAL only, rear-wheel steering, and the gorgeous low-cut ‘double-bubble’ Speedster deck and raked screen. Where most chopped-roof cars feel soft, this one keeps the GT3’s edge — reviewers found it every bit as thrilling as its hardtop track twin, with a supple, beautifully-judged chassis. Rare, manual, GT3-engined and achingly pretty, it’s a collector’s 911 from the moment it left the line.

Studio Buyer’s Brief

Low miles, originality and full documentation are everything on a 1,948-unit collector car; the optional Heritage Design Package (period livery and details) is the most desirable spec. Manual-only and GT3-engined, it needs no mechanical caveats — buy the best-documented, lowest-mileage example you can, and keep it original.

Questions

911 Speedster (991) FAQ

What engine does the Porsche 991 Speedster use?

The 991 Speedster uses a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six derived from the 991.2 GT3, producing 502 hp (510 PS) at 8,400 rpm. It is available only with a 6-speed GT Sport manual gearbox driving the rear wheels.

How many Porsche 991 Speedsters were built?

Porsche built exactly 1,948 examples of the 991 Speedster, a number chosen to honour 1948, the year of Porsche’s founding. It was also the final car built in the 991 generation, with the last example completed in December 2019.

What is the Porsche 991 Speedster worth at auction?

The 991 Speedster has appeared repeatedly at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auctions in 2024 and 2025. The final 991 generation example raised $500,000 at a charity auction hosted by RM Sotheby’s in 2020. Hagerty’s valuation tool lists the 2019 Speedster with current condition-based pricing, while the Heritage Design Package commands a substantial premium.

How does the 991 Speedster differ from the 991 GT3?

The Speedster shares the GT3’s 4.0-litre engine and manual gearbox but adds a lower frameless windshield, twin rear humps, and a fabric hood. It is slightly heavier than the GT3 Touring but was built as a limited roadster celebrating 70 years of Porsche, commanding a substantial price premium over the GT3.
