The Story

The 718 GT4 (and its open Spyder sibling) answered every four-cylinder complaint emphatically: a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six (420 PS) revving past 8,000 rpm, GT-department suspension, a sublime six-speed manual, and the best mid-engine chassis Porsche makes. Launched in 2019, it’s a junior GT3 in everything but badge — around the Nürburgring it matched a 997 GT3 RS 4.0, some 12 seconds quicker than the old 981 GT4. Reviewers ran out of praise: evo called it ‘an instant modern classic,’ Top Gear said steering and gearshifts simply don’t get better. The Spyder adds open-top drama. Together they’re among the purest, most rewarding driver’s Porsches of the modern era.

Studio Buyer’s Brief

Manual cars are the enthusiast’s choice (PDK arrived later); the GT4 and the open Spyder share mechanicals. Verify spec, history and any track use; as an appreciating modern classic, clean, documented, manual cars carry the premium. Questions

718 Cayman GT4 / Spyder (982) FAQ

What engine does the 982 718 Cayman GT4 use?

The 982 718 Cayman GT4 uses a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six producing 414 hp (420 PS) at 7,600 rpm. The engine is derived from the 992 Carrera’s 3.0-litre unit bored out and stripped of its turbochargers, with a 8,000 rpm redline.

How does the 982 GT4 differ from the 981 GT4?

The 982 GT4 (2019) replaced the 981 GT4’s 3.8-litre engine with a larger 4.0-litre unit producing 414 hp vs 385 hp. It launched with a 6-speed manual only; PDK was added later. Suspension is GT3/GT4-derived, and Porsche cites approximately 50% more downforce than the 981 GT4.

What is a 982 718 Cayman GT4 worth today?

The 982 718 Cayman GT4 trades in the $61,000-$169,000 range, with manual-transmission low-mileage examples averaging around $118,000. The 718 Spyder roadster variant commands similar values. Hagerty tracks both by condition.

Is the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 a good investment?

The 982 GT4 has held value well as a manual mid-engine Porsche GT car. Manual examples with low mileage have shown strong appreciation. Note that later 718 GT4 RS and Spyder RS variants exist, so the model line has continued to evolve rather than ending.
