The Story

The 991 GT3 RS took the GT3’s 4.0-litre, 9,000-rpm naturally-aspirated flat-six to its hardcore extreme — and in doing so set a benchmark for road-and-track usability that few cars have ever matched. The 991.1 RS (2015) introduced the 500-PS 4.0 in full RS trim: wider track, magnesium roof, NACA-ducted bonnet, a huge fixed wing, and the famous Weissach-honed chassis. The 991.2 RS (2018) sharpened everything further — 520 PS, ball-jointed suspension, and a Nürburgring time of 6:56.4 that was just nine seconds shy of the 700-hp GT2 RS. Brutally fast yet astonishingly exploitable, it’s the last naturally-aspirated RS with a passive (non-DRS) aero package — and an instant blue-chip modern classic.

Studio Motors POV

The naturally-aspirated RS at its peak — 9,000 rpm, 520 PS, and a Nürburgring time that humbles cars with far more power. The 991.2 GT3 RS is a blue-chip modern grail; buy a low-track-time, documented car and keep it.

Studio Buyer’s Brief

The 991.2 RS (520 PS, ball-jointed suspension) is the more developed car; the 991.1 RS is the value entry to the 4.0 RS world. Verify low track time, originality and full history; the Weissach Package (where fitted) adds value. As the last passive-aero NA RS, clean, documented cars are appreciating — buy the best example you can find.

Questions

911 GT3 RS (991) FAQ

What engine does the Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS use?

The 991.2 GT3 RS is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six producing 513 hp (520 PS) at 8,250 rpm. It is paired exclusively with a 7-speed PDK and drives the rear wheels, with a top speed of 194 mph.

What does the Weissach Package add to the 991 GT3 RS?

The Weissach Package for the 991.2 GT3 RS cuts approximately 29 kg through carbon-fibre chassis, body, and interior components, plus optional forged magnesium wheels. The package emphasises weight savings and additional carbon exterior/interior detailing for track-focused buyers.

What is the 991 GT3 RS worth today?

The 991.2 GT3 RS trades in roughly the $210,000-$320,000 range, with Weissach Package and low-mileage examples at the top of the market. Hagerty valuation tools cover both the 991.1 and 991.2 RS by condition.

How does the 991 GT3 RS differ from the standard GT3?

The GT3 RS uses the wider Turbo bodyshell with flared arches, a larger fixed rear wing, more aggressive aerodynamics, and the Weissach Package option (weight reduction via CF components). Both cars use the 4.0-litre 991.2 flat-six, but the RS is tuned to 520 hp versus the GT3’s 500 PS (about 493 hp).

Is the Porsche 991 GT3 RS a good collector investment?

The 991.2 GT3 RS, particularly Weissach-equipped examples, has shown meaningful appreciation since its 2018 launch. As the final naturally aspirated RS before the 992 generation, low-mileage examples from original buyers attract strong demand at private sale and specialist auction.
