The Story

The F8 Tributo, unveiled at the 2019 Geneva show, replaced the 488 GTB as Ferrari’s mid-engined V8 berlinetta — and its name carries a thesis: ‘Tributo,’ a tribute to the most acclaimed engine Ferrari has ever built. The 3.9L twin-turbo V8 (F154 CG) makes 710 hp at 8,000 rpm — the most powerful V8-powered Ferrari to that date for a non-special-series car. Largely lifted from the 488 Pista, this engine had already won the International Engine of the Year four years running; the F8 was its road-car swan song.

History gives the car its weight. The F8 Tributo is the LAST mid-engined Ferrari V8 berlinetta with no hybrid or electric assistance. Its successor, the 296 GTB, swapped to an electrically-boosted V6; the SF90 paired a V8 with three e-motors. The F8 is the final pure-combustion expression of a bloodline running back through the 488, 458, F430 and 360 to the 1975 308 GTB — the closing of a chapter, not just a model cycle.

Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre under Flavio Manzoni, the F8 is deliberately backward-glancing in its details: the S-Duct from the 488 Pista, a quad-taillight arrangement not seen on a V8 Ferrari since the F430, a louvred Lexan engine cover nodding to the F40, and the body-coloured wrap-around spoiler echoing the original 308 GTB. It’s both a greatest-hits of Ferrari’s V8 era and its full stop.

Studio Motors POV

The F8 Tributo is the period at the end of Ferrari’s great V8 sentence — engineered to celebrate the engine it would also retire. Buy it for what it is: the last time a mid-engined Ferrari berlinetta will ever be powered by combustion alone, and a future blue-chip for exactly that reason.

Worth Knowing About the F8 Tributo

3 Things You Didn’t Know

  • • The nose S-Duct isn't decorative — adapted from Ferrari's F1 programme and carried over from the 488 Pista, it channels high-pressure air from the bumper up over the hood to add front downforce.
  • • The quad taillights are the first four-lamp layout on a V8 Ferrari berlinetta since the F430; the louvred Lexan engine cover is a deliberate modern reinterpretation of the F40's most iconic styling element.
  • • Its engine family won the International Engine of the Year / Engine & Powertrain of the Year title four straight times (2016–2019) — never before achieved — and in 2018 was also named best engine of the previous two decades.

5 Fast Facts

  1. • 3.9L twin-turbo V8 (F154 CG): 710 hp @ 8,000 rpm, 568 lb-ft @ 3,250 rpm — most powerful non-special-series V8 in Ferrari history at launch.
  2. • 0–62 mph in 2.9 s; 0–124 mph in 7.6 s; top speed 211 mph (340 km/h).
  3. • Record specific output ~185 cv per litre.
  4. • Built 2019–2023; offered as the F8 Tributo coupe and the retractable-hardtop F8 Spider.
  5. • The LAST mid-engined Ferrari V8 berlinetta with no hybrid assistance, succeeded by the hybrid V6 296 GTB.

Owners & what to look for

Famous Owners

None verified. Charles Leclerc has been associated with an F8 Tributo in some collection write-ups, but it couldn’t be confirmed from a reliable specific source (a detailed catalogue of his Ferrari collection doesn’t list the F8) — EXCLUDED rather than asserted.

Studio Buyer’s Brief

The core choice is F8 Tributo (coupe) vs F8 Spider (retractable hardtop): the coupe is the purist’s pick and natural collectible. The case rests on provenance — this is the last non-hybrid mid-engine V8 Ferrari berlinetta, the end of a lineage, which historically supports ‘last of’ values. Budget for brakes (they wear fast at this performance level) and verify full Ferrari history. Check for ‘Engine Control System Failure’/limp-mode history (fuel/air sensor or wiring), and confirm recalls — the brake-fluid reservoir-cap venting recall (NHTSA 22V536) and the Lexan rear-cover recall. Low miles + desirable options (carbon, nose lift, racing seats) matter most.

Questions

F8 Tributo FAQ

What is the Ferrari F8 Tributo a tribute to?

The F8 Tributo pays homage to 45 years of Ferrari mid-engine V8 road cars, a lineage that began with the 308 GTB in 1975 and ran through the 328, 348, F355, 360 Modena, F430, 458, and 488 before the F8. The 3.9-litre V8 engine had also won the International Engine of the Year award four consecutive times (2016 to 2019).

What are the Ferrari F8 Tributo’s performance specs?

The F8 Tributo’s 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 710 hp (720 PS) at 8,000 rpm and 568 lb-ft of torque. Ferrari’s official performance figures are 2.9 seconds to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) and a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h).

Is the Ferrari F8 Tributo the last non-hybrid mid-engine V8 Ferrari?

In practice yes: Ferrari closed the order books for the F8 Tributo and F8 Spider in March 2022, and only a single F8 Tributo was built for the 2023 model year. Its successor, the 296 GTB, uses a hybridized V6. Ferrari never officially declared the F8 to be the last non-hybrid mid-engine V8 berlinetta.

What replaced the Ferrari F8 Tributo?

The Ferrari 296 GTB, revealed June 24, 2021, effectively succeeded the F8 Tributo. It uses a hybrid 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 combined with an electric motor producing 819 hp combined — more than the F8 despite two fewer cylinders — and is Ferrari’s first mid-engine production V6 since the Dino.

What is a Ferrari F8 Tributo worth at auction?

A 2020 F8 Tributo coupe sold for 342,700 dollars at Bonhams in June 2023. A 2023 F8 Spider — among the final examples built — achieved 505,500 dollars at Bonhams in August 2025.
