The Story

When Aston revived the Vanquish name in 2012 it was a statement, not nostalgia. Replacing the DBS as the flagship and previewed by the Project AM310 concept at Villa d’Este, the second-generation Vanquish wrapped the familiar 5.9-litre ‘AML’ V12 in a body where EVERY exterior panel was aerospace-grade carbon fibre, styled by Marek Reichman with surfacing lifted from the One-77 hypercar.

Power was 565 bhp at launch (568 from 2014, then 595 in the 2016 Vanquish S), good for 183-201 mph. It was the last naturally-aspirated, hand-built Aston flagship before the turbocharged DB11/DBS Superleggera era – and one of the most beautiful Astons of the century.

Studio Motors POV

The last hand-built, naturally-aspirated Aston flagship – a future modern-classic currently undervalued against its DBS Superleggera successor. Buy the S, in a colour that flatters the carbon.

Worth Knowing About the Vanquish (2012)

3 Things You Didn’t Know

  • 1. Every exterior panel is aerospace-standard carbon fibre – the body is 25% lighter than the DBS it replaced.
  • 2. The shape came from the Project AM310 concept (2012 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este) and borrows surfacing from the One-77.
  • 3. Aston billed the Volante's carbon shell as the stiffest open-top body in its (then) 100-year history.

5 Fast Facts

  1. 1. Second use of the Vanquish name (after 2001-07); a third generation arrived in 2024.
  2. 2. 5.9L V12: 565 bhp (2012) rising to 595 bhp (Vanquish S, 2016).
  3. 3. 0-62 in 4.1s (early) to 3.5s (S); up to 201 mph.
  4. 4. Transmission: 6-speed Touchtronic (2012-14), then 8-speed ZF (2014+).
  5. 5. Built at Gaydon; the last NA V12 hand-built flagship before the turbo era.

Owners & what to look for

Famous Owners

No celebrity owner verified for this 2nd-gen Vanquish. (Pierce Brosnan’s documented ‘Vanquish’ is the 2001 V12 Vanquish / ‘Die Another Day’, not this car.) No documented owner specific to this generation found.

Studio Buyer’s Brief

The Vanquish S (2016) is the one to have – 595 bhp, sharper chassis, 8-speed auto, run-out desirability. On any car confirm the 8-speed ZF (2014+) over the earlier 6-speed; check carbon-panel fit/repair history (costly), full service records and ceramic-brake condition. All autos – no manual was offered.

Questions

Vanquish (2012) FAQ

What is the top speed of the Aston Martin Vanquish S?

The Aston Martin Vanquish S produces 595 bhp from its naturally aspirated 5.9-litre V12, reaching a top speed of 201 mph and covering 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds. The earlier standard Vanquish was 565 bhp / 183 mph for 2012-2014 cars and 568 bhp / 201 mph from 2015 onward.

What is the difference between the Vanquish and Vanquish S?

Aston Martin unveiled the Vanquish S in November 2016. Power rose from 568 bhp to 595 bhp, suspension tuning was sharpened, and the car gained an exposed carbon-fibre body kit including a new front splitter and rear diffuser. The eight-speed ZF automatic had already arrived on the 2015 standard Vanquish — it was not an S-only addition.

Is the 2012 Aston Martin Vanquish the same as the original?

No. The 2012 Vanquish is an entirely new car designed by Marek Reichman on a bonded carbon-fibre and aluminium structure. The original V12 Vanquish (2001-2007), designed under Ian Callum, used its own carbon-fibre and aluminium platform — it predates the VH platform Aston Martin introduced with the DB9.

What is an Aston Martin Vanquish worth today?

As of 2025, used 2012-gen Aston Martin Vanquish examples trade broadly for $90,000-$160,000. Vanquish S models (2016 onward) command a premium over earlier 568 bhp examples. Condition, mileage, colour, and presence of the eight-speed gearbox are the key value drivers.

Can you lease or finance an Aston Martin Vanquish?

Yes. Specialist lenders structure leases and finance arrangements on the Aston Martin Vanquish regardless of model year.
