The Story
The Performante is the moment Lamborghini stopped shouting and started out-engineering everyone. Revealed at Geneva in March 2017, it took the Huracán’s 5.2-litre V10 to 631 hp, shed 40 kg with chopped-carbon Forged Composite panels, and bolted on the headline act: ALA — Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva — active aero with flaps that open and close in under 500 milliseconds and can even vector downforce from one side of the car to the other through a corner.
The proof came on the Nürburgring. On 5 October 2016 it lapped the Nordschleife in 6:52.01 — beating the hybrid, million-dollar Porsche 918 Spyder by almost five seconds. A naturally-aspirated junior supercar had just humiliated a hypercar. The lap’s video frame-rate was questioned, but the time was certified and the message stuck.
The press capitulated. Chris Harris called it ‘quite probably the best car Lamborghini makes right now’; evo said Lamborghini set out ‘just to make a better Lamborghini, and succeeded’; Jeremy Clarkson named it his Car of the Year. This was Sant’Agata proving it could do substance, not just spectacle.
