Lamborghini Jarama
1970–1976 · Lamborghini Jarama — Grand Tourer, V12, designed by Marcello Gandini.
The Story
Ask most people to name Ferruccio Lamborghini’s favourite Lamborghini and they’ll say the Miura. They’d be wrong. ‘I preferred the Jarama to all the others,’ he said in a 1991 interview, ‘because it is the perfect compromise between the Miura and the Espada.’ The founder’s own pick was this — the angular, front-engined 2+2 that history very nearly forgot.
Introduced at Geneva in 1970 and styled by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, the Jarama used a version of the Espada’s chassis shortened by nearly eleven inches, wrapped around the 3.9-litre Bizzarrini V12 (350 hp, or 365 in the later Jarama S). The name honours the Jarama river region in Spain where fighting bulls are bred — not, as often assumed, the racing circuit near Madrid. It was the last front-engined V12 GT Lamborghini ever built.
Heavy, complex and overshadowed in period by the mid-engined Miura and Countach, the Jarama has long been the unsung Lamborghini. But it was the boss’s favourite, and his personal Jarama S sits in the factory museum to this day — a quiet argument that the company’s most overlooked car might also be one of its best.

The Designer
Marcello Gandini
One of history’s most influential car designers; defined the wedge era at Bertone (Miura, Countach, Stratos). Penned the EB110’s body for the reborn Bugatti. Born Turin 1938, died 2024. Sources: Wikipedia; Car Design News. PARTIAL: his Lamborghini cars (in the Lamborghini file) will join at the cross-make consolidation.
Studio Motors POV
The Jarama is the contrarian’s grail: the founder’s favourite, still trading at a fraction of a Miura. We think it’s the most underpriced vintage V12 Lamborghini — buy a documented S now, while the market still calls it ‘forgotten.’

Studio Buyer’s Brief
327 cars; the 150 Jarama S models (365 hp, power bulge, extra cooling) lead. As an undervalued V12, a sorted, documented S with the correct engine is the play; watch rust and complex electrics. Values ~$90K–200K, and quietly rising.

Questions
Jarama FAQ
What did Ferruccio Lamborghini say about the Jarama?
Ferruccio Lamborghini stated in a 1991 interview that the Jarama was his favourite of all the Lamborghinis he built, describing it as the perfect compromise between the Miura and the Espada. His personal Jarama S is now on display in the Lamborghini factory museum.
What is the difference between the Jarama and Jarama S?
The Jarama S raises the 3.9-litre V12 from 350 to 365 hp, adds a bonnet power bulge and extra cooling vents. Of the 327 Jaramas built, 150 were S variants. The S is the more desirable collector car and commands a notable premium over the standard model.
Was the Lamborghini Jarama the last of its kind?
The Jarama was the last front-engine grand touring V12 Lamborghini, concluding the lineage that began with the 350 GT in 1964. It was produced until 1976, after which Lamborghini’s performance car range switched entirely to mid-engine configurations with the Countach and Urraco.
How much does a Lamborghini Jarama cost?
Lamborghini Jarama values average approximately $102,000, with the best Jarama S examples reaching $200,000. It remains one of the most undervalued vintage V12 Lamborghinis relative to its historical significance as the founder’s favourite and the last of the front-engine GT lineage.
Can you buy a Lamborghini Jarama?
Yes. The Jarama appears through specialist dealers and private sales and is arguably the most underpriced vintage V12 Lamborghini.
