The Story
The Sabre is the rarest, most enigmatic modern McLaren — a 15-car, US-only hypercar built by McLaren Special Operations and, at 824 bhp, the most powerful non-hybrid V8 McLaren had ever made. It exists because a handful of American collectors wanted something beyond a Senna, and MSO obliged: each of the 15 cars was individually specced by its owner, who flew to the Thermal Club in California to drive test mules and feed comments straight back to Woking by video call.
Because it ignores every market’s regulations but America’s, the Sabre slipped almost entirely under the global radar — no road tests, no press fleet, just 15 fighter-jet-styled cars (its knife-edge looks suit the name) delivered through McLaren Beverly Hills. It tops out at 218 mph.
It’s less a model than a 15-piece commission, which is exactly why it’s one of the hardest McLarens to value or even find.
