The Story
The Artura is the most important McLaren of its generation, because it’s the one that had to reinvent the formula. It’s the first McLaren built on the all-new MCLA carbon platform, the first with a V6, the first plug-in hybrid you can actually drive on electricity alone (~31 km), and the first with an 8-speed dual-clutch. In other words, the clean-sheet “entry” McLaren for the electrified era, successor to the 570S Sports Series.
The launch was rocky — software gremlins and delays dogged early cars — but McLaren’s autumn-2024 update answered the criticism head-on, adding 20 bhp (to 700 PS), more equipment and fixes. The result, evo concluded, is “a triumph”: a hybrid supercar whose feedback and involvement are unrivalled at the price.
The only knock that sticks is that it looks a little too familiar. Drive it, though, and the Artura is the genuine future of the everyday McLaren.
