The Story
The GTS is the McLaren GT, corrected — and a quiet study in how hard the “grand tourer” idea is for a mid-engine supercar company. McLaren took the GT, lifted the 4.0 V8 to 626 bhp, retuned the chassis and improved the cabin, keeping the long glazed tailgate and the heated, carpeted load bay that set the GT apart. CarBuzz’s take: it “doesn’t just maintain that grand touring philosophy — it strives to improve on it.”
The problem isn’t the car; it’s the timing. By the time the GTS arrived, McLaren’s own Artura had introduced a bespoke V6 hybrid and a newer carbon structure, leaving the V8 GTS, as evo put it, looking “out of date before it even arrived” and sitting awkwardly in the range.
