Designed by Hans Mezger. The classic 911 boxer-six — Hans Mezger’s design, grown 2.0 L (1964) to 3.8 L (993). Variant codes: 911/53 (2.4 S), 911/83 (Carrera RS 2.7), 911/77 (Carrera RS 3.0), 930/20 (3.2 Carrera), 930/66 (930 Turbo, single-turbo), M64/01 (964), M64/03 (964 RS), M64/50 (964 Turbo, single-turbo), M64/21 (993), M64/20 (993 RS 3.8), M64/60 (993 Turbo, the first TWIN-turbo 911), M64/60R (993 GT2). The 993 (1998) was the last air-cooled 911; turbocharging (930, 1975) adapted 917/30 Can-Am tech under Ernst Fuhrmann.
