Designed by Porsche (Weissach). The first water-cooled mainstream flat-six — 996 Carrera + 986 Boxster. Known for the IMS (intermediate-shaft) bearing failure: a sealed, grease-packed bearing not fed by engine oil. In our DB: M96 3.2 (986 Boxster S), M96 3.6 (996 Carrera). The 987.2 / 997.2 later moved to the 9A1 direct-injection engine. FLAG: no single named designer.
