Maybach Maybach Landaulet
2008–2012 · Maybach Maybach Landaulet — Limousine, V12 Twin-Turbo, designed by Olivier Boulay.
The Story
The Maybach Landaulet is the rarest and strangest car the modern brand made: a 62 S with its rear roof cut off. In landaulet style — a body that dates to horse-drawn carriages and was historically built for heads of state to wave from in processions — the chauffeur stays sealed under a fixed roof while the rear passengers ride open to the sky, the rear panel electro-hydraulically folding into the parcel shelf in 16 seconds. Underneath is the full 62 S limousine: the 6.0 twin-turbo V12 (604 hp), the reclining first-class rear, the fridge and the champagne. The debut car of November 2007 was finished all-white, with a black chauffeur’s compartment and a white rear cabin trimmed in piano black and gold-flecked granite.
It was barely a production car at all. Maybach talked about a target of 20; in the end roughly 22 were built (18 pre-facelift, four facelifted), each to order, at around $1.35 million. That makes it a genuine grail — and gave it one of the great celebrity-repossession stories, when rapper Tyga’s reported $2.2 million Landaulet was towed from a repair shop in 2016 after missed payments. It almost never trades; when it does, provenance is the entire conversation.

Studio Motors POV
The Landaulet is the modern Maybach at its most extravagant and least rational — a million-dollar open-air limousine built two dozen times. It’s a collector’s piece, not a car to use; value lives entirely in condition, completeness and a clean story.

What Reviewers Said About Maybach Landaulet
Worth Knowing About the Maybach Landaulet
3 Things You Didn’t Know

- • Extreme rarity: roughly 22 built in total (18 pre-facelift + four facelifted), each to order — Maybach's launch target was just 20.
- • The rear roof folds electro-hydraulically into the parcel shelf in 16 seconds while the chauffeur's compartment stays fully enclosed; the debut car was all-white outside with a deliberately split black-and-white cabin.
5 Fast Facts
- • Based on the Maybach 62 S; unveiled as a concept Nov 2007, production confirmed Jan 2008.

Provenance
Owners & what to look for
Famous Owners
• Tyga (Michael Stevenson) — a 2014 Maybach 62 S Landaulet (reported ‘$2.2 million’), repossessed Sept 2016 from a repair shop after missed payments [TMZ; Complex].
• FLAG: the ‘2014’ model year and ‘$2.2M’ are as reported, not independently confirmed; the stronger ‘never paid for’ version is unverified — only the missed-payment repossession is sourced.
• No other owner verified.
Studio Buyer’s Brief
A true grail that almost never trades — with only ~22 built, provenance is everything, and most known cars surface in collections or rare listings. Mechanically it inherits the 62 S’s fragilities (complex air/hydraulic suspension, dense early-2000s electronics) plus the unique risk of a bespoke electro-hydraulic folding roof — a low-volume system with scarce parts and expertise. Budget for specialist support and long lead times. (Reliability here is platform-plus-roof guidance, not a sourced defect report — the run is too small for failure-rate data.)
