Designed by Ernst Fuhrmann. The legendary ‘Fuhrmann’ 4-cam flat-four — Ernst Fuhrmann’s masterpiece, with a vertical-shaft DOHC valvetrain. Type 547 (550 Spyder), Type 587 (904). Famously complex (~120 hours to assemble, hours just to time the cams); powered the 550, 718 RSK, the Carrera 356s and the 904.
