Designed by Porsche (Weissach). The front-engine, rear-transaxle inline-four (M44 family). M44/40 (924 S 2.5), M44/41 (944 S2 3.0), M44/12 (968 3.0). The 3.0 L was the world’s largest production 4-cylinder of its era; used balance shafts (licensed Mitsubishi/Lanchester design), and the 968 added VarioCam. FLAG: no single named designer.
