Designed by Rolls-Royce (W.A. Robotham, B-range). Part of the rationalised Rolls-Royce ‘B range’ (B40 four / B60 six / B80 eight), designed 1943 under W.A. Robotham, originally for military vehicles; F-head (IOE) crossflow. Bentley road use: 4.25 L (Mark VI), 4.5 L big-bore (R-Type), 4.9 L B61 (S1). Also powered RR Silver Wraith/Dawn/Cloud (see Rolls-Royce tab). S-Type saloon’s S2/S3 switched to the L-Series V8.
